TRAINING OF RETINAL SPECIALISTS AND THEIR SUBSEQUENT POSITIONS
During the period at Bonn and Tuebingen,
there were since 1973 more than 300 ophthalmologists trained from 12 Eastern European
countries, North and South America, China, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey, Italy, France,
Belgium, Brazil, Mexico , etc. Many of them had become
Head of Department for posterior segment of the eye or Chairman of Department
of Ophthalmolgy.
CLINICAL INTERESTS
Retinal detachment surgery, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular
degeneration (AMD), posterior segment laser surgery, angiography, OCT, Medical
Retina. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and application of intravitreal Triamcinolone
Acetonide for various edematous and neovascular macular diseases.
SPECTRUM OF PUBLICATIONS
314 papers published
in peer-reviewed journals: Topics include: Histology of the cryosurgical adhesion,
long-term (7-15 years) anatomical and functional results on various treatments for
retinal detachments (segmental buckling, balloon, expanding gases). A 3-year study
on the effect of pancryopexy for diabetic eyes with persistent vitreous hemorrhage
and rubeosis iridis,
various papers on fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, scanning laser
ophthalmoscopy (SLO), microperimetry, OCT, diagnostics and treatment of age-related
macular degeneration, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), treatment of diabetic retinopathy
with laser or cryosurgery, brachytherapy (iodine-125) for choroidal melanomas with
4-year follow-up.
More recent papers evolving from the clinical work at the Department of Ophthalmology at
Mannheim, Germany, are covering the multifold applications of intravitreal
Triamcinolone Acetonide for edematous and neovascular macular diseases (exudative AMD,
diffuse diabetic macular edema, macular edema in retinal central/branch vein
occlusion or Irvine Gass).
