Hallo and welcome to my private homepage! Here you may get some information on my scientific profile, my projects and my publications.
As an archaeologist, I am dealing with ancient cultures, in particular those of Ancient Near east. Nevertheless, I am not only interested in traces of dead civilisations but also in their very vivid succeeding cultures in the modern Near Eastern countries. Therefore I have been travelling and working in this region every year since 1987. Now I am working in Tell Halaf in Syria, a site, which is investigated by a joint mission of the University of Tuebingen, the Museum of Ancient Near Eastern Art in Berlin, the University of Halle-Wittenberg and the General Direction of Antiquities and Museums in Damascus. I hope that my work may contribute a little bit to a better understanding of the cultures of Ancient Near East. I was born in 1965 in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Since 1999 I am living in Tuebingen. I am married to a colleague of mine, Gabriele Elsen-Novák, and have two sons. Fortunately we have the opportunity of working together in Syria.
